This view of Pendle Hill is taken from a rather drab picture I found on the web. It’s the final picture I’ve been doing for a family member….it’s taken a while! Too busy I guess.
i wanted to still pick up the feeling of late autumn, but bring out the colours that I feel are there.
One of the greatest things about later autumn light is when light bounces off even wood to create a kind of brilliance that is so much the beauty of our area of Lancashire, especially when the light casts the background into a deeper shadow.
tricky though trying to get the depth right. Warm colours foreground, cool background, but that red on the left could be a real problem, so I had to push it towards a cooler red.

200lb not rough watercolour paper, un stretched. Lift preparation fluid used (windsor and Newton) , gum arabic used at about 1:10 ratio with water to dilute tube watercolours.
Good for lifting out areas, but more staining than expected from veridian
Black drawing ink is acrylic, not Indian, which I feel works better, variety of dip pens used both before and after painting.
