I know it doesn’t seem quite the kind of thing for a vicar-y sort to be into, but I am quite fond of the HP Lovecraft Cthulu mythos. The best part is that it was two college lecturers, one an Anglican nun (as I describe her) and the other another vicar, who it me on to it. Beats cricket and train sets!
Lovecraft (August 20, 1890 – March 15, 1937) was an American horror writer, though some of his work is scarier than others. Though I am really no expert. I’d say, if pushed, that Lovecraft’s horror writing is to horror as Alfred Hitchcock is to the thriller suspense genre in that he doesn’t really show you what is happening in the story…more implies it!
That’s quite an art….and makes rather good reading. Using lots of really rich words.
The rough point of these horror stories is the creatures are able to manipulate the human mind to make them into worshippers. They live in inter-dimensional space too….and travel across vast distances. Anyway, I’m no expert, like I said.
The other day I was trying to generate an idea to two and started doodling a rocket. That reminded me of one of the first flicker films, or the moon eating a space rocket….from which came this toothsome mouth….and from that came the tentacles, because I like drawing things that intertwine like branches and tree roots.
Done in 0.2 pt uni pen in my sketch book, and as usual no pencil work first, so any mistakes had to be incorporated into the final image.
About 8 hours in all.
