This image doesn’t exist I
N real life, so it is a work of imagination. Interestingly a Facebook friend saw it and noted the strong imagery and saw in it Narnia, which I am reading ‘voyage of the dawn treader’ so perhaps it has influenced my thinking.
Round Clitheroe, the forest on the hill could be Longridge fell or any number of beauty spots in the trough of Bowland. The lonely tree though firmly belongs in Malham. The pathway continues the idea of journey, and the choice one has to make as to take the lonely road of mystical spirituality going it alone, or to enter into community. A gate bars the way, but it is still accessible. The stone almost guards it, but doesn’t stop the traveller should they wish to go it alone. God never forces himself. He is clear at every juncture, though we are left with the choice.
The field to the right, just for reference, is limestone pavement…I’m hoping that will be clearer when it’s actually painted! To the left is grass.
