I decided to have a quick crack at noir comic style tonight. This was without reference, so it’s more about practicing the style than accuracy. I decided then to add in the grey textures.
One of my hopes one day is to get a chance to illustrate in this style or similar a comic story. I can’t write my own because I’m rubbish at not writing too much. I need a script writer!
Noir comic is all about contrasts, shadow drawing in the extreme and choosing blacks. There is no midtone, but here i used texture, so cheated a bit. I think the first time I did something like this was with tracing paper over old copies of the radio times hen I was a kid.
I drew around the shadows, and blacked in as much as possible. Not bad an idea for a 10 year old!
